The Operation Centre Frankfurt – a new building complex for surface transport and for the air transport services including the terminal operations of Frankfurt Airport – brings previously distributed functions together into one service building. As an entrance building for surface transport services, the new building marks the boundary between airside and landside at the airport.
The strict separation for security reasons of the two areas and functions calls for the building to have two double-circulation zones: Internal stairways and lifts lead to floors 4–9. External circulation cores provide access to the underground floors where airside functions are performed, and to the changing and break rooms for the 900 staff on the first basement level. The offices on floors 4–9 are group rooms and can be used as variously configurable multi-purpose zones. The offices offer staff quiet working areas for concentration and communal communication areas. Transparent materials improve visual contact and communication between staff.
